KOTA KINABALU – The second quarter of 2021 saw the formation of three new ministries in Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish (SHCP) namely Parish Migrants and Itinerants (PCMI), Creation Justice Ministry (CJM) and Caritas Parish Ministry (CPM).
Spiritual Directors of these three ministries are Sr Anita James, Sr Carmen Cordova and Fr Paul Lo respectively. Presently, PCMI has 13 members, CJM and CPM has eight and 17 members respectively from both SHCP and Church of Mary Immaculate.
Fr Paul Lo celebrated the Holy Mass and commissioned the members of the newly formed ministries Aug 31 at 5:00 pm. With him at the altar was Fr Russell Lawrine, who is also the Spiritual Adviser of the Archdiocesan Creation Justice Commission.

In his homily, Fr Lo said to the members to stay alert and be vigilant in the current pandemic situation. He pointed out that in order to live a good Christian life, we need to continue to encourage one another and not lose hope.
He reminded the Ministries to pay attention to the needy especially those who are voiceless and marginalized, to be the arms and legs of the Church for those in need, and to be constantly moved by God throughout the challenges the communities are facing now. He also urged them not to be afraid and to have courage in manifesting the presence and power of Jesus Christ, who is good, loving and merciful, in carrying out the mission given to the Church.

Ever since the inception of these new ministries, Caritas Parish Ministry have been initiating donation drives for dried foods and/or cash donation which began July 10 for the needy who are affected by the pandemic.
Close to 3,000 families identified by the PCMI have benefited from this Works of Mercy. Despite the present situation of the pandemic, Caritas Parish Ministry has been coming together to pack the individual food baskets for distribution.
The enormous generosity of the local faithful have made all this possible.
