KOTA KINABALU – In his homily during the Mass for the Opening of new Academic Year of CAC Aspirancy and Initiation Year Seminarians, on Feb 26 at St Peter’s College (SPC), Kota Kinabalu, Archbishop John Wong said the season of lent is an opportunity that the Lord has given each one of us to encounter Him in this journey and be compassionate.
“Take 40 days journey seriously,” he said, “because this holy season of lent is to help us deepen our communion with God and with one another.”
He also invited all new aspirants and seminarians to encounter Jesus and share the love that they received with one another also to serve genuinely.
Together with the Archbishop at the altar were Fr Mattheus Luta, Director of SPC for Initiation Year, Fr Isidore Gilbert, Director of CDC Formation House for Aspirant and Fr Rhobby Mojolou one of the Spiritual Director.
After the Mass ended, Fr Isidore in his speech, said he was delighted to have 15 aspirants this year and he reminded them to, “be humble, be open, be yourself, be willing and surrender yourself to the formation especially to the spiritual formation.”
Fr Isidore also said that freedom is theirs to express acts of kindness, doing what is right and what must they adhere to.
Meanwhile, Fr Mattheus informed everyone presence that there were ten Initiation Year students this year from Diocese of Keningau, Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, Diocese of Sibu, Miri dan Sandakan.
Quoting the theme of Synodal Church, Fr Mattheus invited all the seminarian to journey together in communion, participation and mission.
He concludes his speech by thanking the benefactors and requested them to pray for the seminarians in their daily prayers.
Also present at the opening Academic Year 2024 is Seminarian Philip Asirwalam from Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.
