KINARUT – The Catholic Church accepted 48 new members into its fold on Aug 28 during the Reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion) held at St Augustine’s Church in Kinarut.
For these catechumens, their reception into the Catholic Church has been delayed by the coronavirus. Under normal circumstances, they would be welcomed into the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil Mass.
The rites were administered by Archbishop John Wong, with Penampang parish priest Fr Wilfred Atin, Fr Gilbert Marcus, Fr Jeffri Gumu and Fr Andrew Kim concelebrating at Mass.
Archbishop Wong congratulated the neophytes for their strong commitment and eagerness to find the truth through following more than a year of formation program in the RCIA.
For the next part of their post-baptismal catechesis, he urged them to join their respective zone or community to serve in the various ministries of the church, as a time for deepening of their Easter faith, for spiritual growth, and for entering more fully into the life and unity of the Christian community.
The total number of catechumens receiving the Easter Sacraments for this year was limited due to the strict adherence to the SOP protocol under the Recovery Movement Control Order. The neophytes are from the following zones: Kinarut (31), Limbanak (6), Maang (2), Sugud (1) and Potuki (8).
