KOTA KINABALU – The month of June is traditionally devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated on a Friday within this month. The Solemnity is also designated as a day to pray for the sanctification of priests. Traditionally, to mark that day, the clergy of the Archdiocese would gather for a day of recollection and prayer and to celebrate Holy Mass together at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
This year, they have gathered once again on Jun 15. Fr Aloysius Fidelis preached at the recollection where he led the clergy to rediscover the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the meaning behind the symbols of its image, and the history of the devotion and St Margaret Mary Alacoque, the nun who popularized it. The recollection concluded with Holy Hour and confessions.
Holy Mass of the Solemnity was celebrated in the cathedral in the evening with Fr Wilfred as the homilist. He invited the laity to pray fervently through the intercession of the Sacred Heart for the sanctification and faithfulness of their priests, and for all priests to rededicate their lives to Christ and His Church.
It was truly a beautiful time for the priests of the Archdiocese to gather with the archbishop to pray and rededicate themselves in holiness especially on this day and age where the priesthood is constantly being attacked by the evil one. Through Jesus’ Most Sacred Heart, may we continue to pray for all our priests.
