KUALA LUMPUR – The Marian Walk organised by the KL Central District parishes was a remarkable spiritual gathering. It brought together 400 participants, including members of the clergy, senior citizens, the visually impaired and even children as young as eight years old.
The walk commenced with Mass at 7.30am at the Church of St Anthony. Fr Gerard Theraviam was the main presi-der with Fr William Michael, Fr George Harrison, Fr Andrew Manickam OFM Cap, and Fr Robert Kham concelebrating. Deacon Gnana Selvam Berentis assisted.
The Eucharistic celebration was a beautiful prelude to the day’s activities, setting the tone for a profound spiritual experience. After Mass, the participants recited the Rosary before they enjoyed morning refreshment. This helped prepare them for the journey ahead.
The pilgrims then headed to the Cathedral of St John where they were pleasantly surprised by a warm welcome from Archbishop Julian Leow. The seat of the archbishop held significant spiritual importance along the route.
Their next stop was the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, another cherished place of worship. Pilgrims gathered at the church to seek blessings and guidance on their spiritual journey.
This pilgrimage concluded at the Church of the Holy Rosary, with the faithful reciting their fourth Rosary for the morning.
The journey marked the first of its kind at the Central District level as participants traversed the heart of the city on foot, connecting with their faith and the history of these sacred sites along the way.
The spirit of unity and shared devotion was evident at every step, showcasing the unwavering faith of the congregation. As the participants walked into the churches, their devotion and faith shone brightly, with many stopping to offer prayers and light candles at the different grottos in honour of the Virgin Mary.
The entire event was a testament to the power of faith and community. As participants moved through the city streets, they were met with the support and goodwill of the local community. The friendly Polis Di Raja Malaysia, Traffic Police, and Rela personnel played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth flow of the event. Their guidance and assistance made this spiritual journey possible, and their presence was deeply appreciated by all involved.
The KL Central District Catholic Churches Marian Walk served as a potent reminder of the importance of faith and community in today’s fast-paced world. As the participants traversed the nine-kilometre route, they deepened their connection with fellow believers and reaffirmed their faith. This event was a profound and enduring experience that left a lasting impression on all who participated.
The Marian Walk was specifically held in October as a renewal of our Rosary devotion to honour our Mother Mary, Queen of Heaven. – Herald Malaysia
