DIVINE Mercy Apostolate from sixteen parishes under the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu met for the first time Sep 16 after a long postponement since 2020 due to the pandemic.
The gathering was attended by the Divine Mercy coordinators from all parishes under the Archdiocese except for St Peter’s Kudat and St Theresa’s Kota Marudu, which are still under formation.
In his opening remarks, Fr Florian Marcus, spiritual director of the Divine Mercy Apostolate of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese, thanked God for the momentous gathering and urged the coordinators to persevere in their calling to be missionaries of mercy to the world.
He added, “The message of God’s mercy should not just reach the brain but also trickle down to the heart and real actions.”
The Divine Mercy Committee at the Archdiocesan level is formed in order to better coordinate inter-parish activities, as well as to plan for regional level of conferences, such as those of Asian Apostolic Congress on Mercy (ACCOM) and the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM).
It is a practice of Divine Mercy devotees to have a weekly devotion session where the devotees share the Gospel, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and plan for their works of mercy to reach out to the needy.
To make the weekly devotion session uniform throughout the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, Fr Florian handed over a format for weekly Divine Mercy devotion to the devotees.
