BUKIT PADANG – A new ministry called Special Liturgy Ministry (SLM) has been officially formed at Church of Mary Immaculate (CMI) with the election of its office bearers and coordinators on 31 March 2022.
SLM will be serving at Masses for weddings and funerals as well as for special occasions such as baptism, as and when they are required. SLM will serve as choir, readers and commentators and will work closely with other Liturgical coordinators of the church.
This meeting saw a gathering of 31 members with a special invitation to Rita Chin, the leader of the now dissolved Sacred Heart Cathedral Special Liturgy Ministry. Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Catherine Engsun thanked everyone for their willingness to serve in this ministry, for the church and the people of God.
The election of the office bearers and coordinators for the term 2022-2024 was then conducted with the following outcome:
Chairman : Catherine Engsun
Vice Chairman : Clarice Irine Moiji
Secretary : Victoria Voon
Treasurer : Juanita Humoc
Coordinators:
Wedding Emma Undan and Nailin Vetto
Funeral Clarice Irine Moiji and Rose Tsen
Choir Henry Chua and Alice Dison
Readers & Commentators Lilian May Chia and Philomena Engsun
EMC Victoria Voon
It was also announced that parish priest Fr Paul Lo will act as spiritual director for this ministry.
Members were asked to indicate whether they are able to serve during week days or on weekends and public holidays to ensure the availability of services when the need arises.
Rita Chin shared her experiences in leading a similar ministry at Sacred Heart Cathedral for 28 years, touching on the requirements and the do’s and don’ts when serving. She provided some materials as reference. She added that she was touched by the big number of interested members because during her time at SHC, there were only 10 to 12 members, and at times only five would be serving.
Earlier on, as a preparation on the setting up of this ministry, a special briefing was conducted on 19 March 2022, where Rita Chin was first invited to share her experiences in the formation of this ministry and its expectations.
The meeting came to a close with a group photo and a simple fellowship.
Prior to this meeting, the newly signed up members of SLM had the opportunity to serve as choir at the recent Mass for Peace (Pray for Ukraine) at CMI, which was organized by Caritas Sacred Heart Cathedral on 26 March 2022.
