LABUAN – The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) is also the Feast Day of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament Labuan. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop John Wong and concelebrated by Parish Priest, Fr Thomas Madanan. Seminarian Jerry Joseph was in attendance too.
In his homily, the Archbishop emphasized that we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to understand the real presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. He also invited the people to reflect on what God has done in our lives and how we should respond to the gifts that we have received from Him.
61 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation
During the Mass, a total of 61 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation. After Mass, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament began from the Church to the Spiritual Garden of St Joseph. Fr Thomas led the chanting of the Litany of the Blessed Sacrament. The procession stopped in front of the Tomb of Jesus for the Gospel reading and prayers. It concluded with Benediction in the Church.
After the Holy Mass, an update on the progress of the new church building and the financial report from the building committee was given and followed by speeches from the Chairlady, Jocelyn Yeo, Fr Thomas and Abp John Wong himself. The prelate reminded the parishioners in journeying together without neglecting anyone. He congratulated the newly confirmed and hoping that they will start to serve the Church as the soldiers of Christ. Ending his speech, he gave 12 short words for the parishioners to live out, “Read the Gospel, Obey the Commandments, Receive the Sacraments, Evangelise the Good News”.
Parishioners then adjourned to Cuarteron Hall for fellowship. After the cake cutting ceremony, scrumptious traditional food was served. The newly-confirmed performed three songs during the fellowship, namely Hari ini Ku Rasa Bahagia, Companions on the Journey and the parish theme song, “We will Serve the Lord”. The fellowship ended with Angelus Prayer and certificate giving ceremony.
