PETALING JAYA – The Catholic Lawyers’ Society of Kuala Lumpur marked its 30th anniversary with a dinner and dance event on Dec 7, 2024, held at Hilton Petaling Jaya.
The evening, themed Celebrating 30 Years of Spiritus Legis, saw guests dressed elegantly in white and gold, echoing the festive spirit of the Christmas season.
Among the distinguished attendees were Archbishop Julian Leow; apostolic nuncio to Malaysia, Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski; minister and consul general of the Republic of the Philippines, Roussel R. Reyes; consul general of the Republic of Vanuatu, Dr Henry Savarimuthu and his wife, May Phuah and YB Teresa Kok.
The celebration commenced with a rendition of When A Child is Born, followed by a lively performance of Winter Wonderland by a group of children.
Speeches from key figures, including society president Stanislaus Cross, Archbishop Julian, ecclesiastical assistant Fr Gregory Chan, and organising chairman Francis Pereira, resonated deeply with attendees.
This was followed by a photo montage honouring the society’s founders, past presidents, and members who have passed away and a cake-cutting ceremony.
Emcee Simon D’Cruz kept spirits high throughout the night, culminating in an exciting lucky draw that awarded prizes to ten winners, including a grand prize of a three-day, two-night stay in Langkawi, sponsored by the consul general of the Republic of Vanuatu.
The entertainment continued with live music from the band La Viva.
Present were also children and youth from the Myanmar Community Learning Centre, sponsored by senior members of the society. Each child received a goodie bag.
The society continues its tradition of inclusivity, having previously invited members of the deaf community and Orang Asli students to participate in its festivities. Throughout its 30 years, the Catholic Lawyers’ Society has successfully raised funds for critical initiatives, including child protection projects and support for organisations providing care for the homeless living with HIV/AIDS. – Herald Malaysia
