Nov 28 2020
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
The feast of Christ the King that we just celebrated (on November 22, 2020) is the culmination of the liturgical year — Year A for us as Catholics. Through the year we have walked together in Jesus Christ, our Lord and King. On November 29, 2020 we will start the new Liturgical year, Year B, at the same time we enter the time of Advent.
As we enter the new liturgical year, it is good for us individually, as a family and as a community or BEC to spare time to reflect, on whether, throughout the year we have really acknowledged and accepted Jesus as our personal God and King, in our family and our community (BEC). We need to look at and examine the situation and the quality of our relationship with Jesus over the past year so that we can enter the new Church year with a new resolution that we truly accept Jesus and acknowledge him as our Lord and King.
Throughout this life we need to build a living and fresh faith, to witness and to endure. In this Advent we are to realize and be thankful that the God we know and worship is the God who wants to build a relationship with us human beings (John 1:14; Rev. 2:20). This is the reason why we need to be united, rooted and built on Jesus (Col. 2: 6-7). Throughout this Advent we have many opportunities to realize and be grateful for His initiative in drawing near and building relationships with us (John 3:16; Hebrews 1:1-2).
Throughout Liturgical Year B, we need to build a living and fresh faith, to witness and to persevere. During Advent we are helped to realise and be thankful that the God we know and worship is the God who wants to build a relationship with us human beings (John 1:14; Rev. 2:20). This is the reason why we need to be united, rooted and built on Jesus (Col. 2:6-7). Throughout this Advent we have many opportunities to realise and be grateful for His initiative in drawing near and building relationships with us (John 3:16; Hebrews 1:1-2).
Brothers and sisters, as followers and disciples of Jesus, during the COVID-19 pandemic we all certainly feel anxious. Throughout this Advent, let us focus our direction of life on Jesus, the expression of God’s love, participation and salvation for us.
Let us have faith in Jesus’ own message, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” (John 14: 1). Let us make use of this Advent season to continue to strengthen our unity and be faithful to Jesus so that He becomes the Source, Reason and Purpose of our life, no matter what obstacles we face throughout life.
With the Holy Family, may we be helped to always live a Christ-centred life in whatever challenges we face.
Have a blessed Advent.
