MONGOLIA – The Diocese of Hohhot in Inner Mongolia held its Chrism Mass on Apr 8 at Hohhot Cathedral, moving the liturgy earlier than Holy Thursday to accommodate the vast geographical spread of the diocese and the scattered locations of its clergy.
Covering over 2,000 kilometers from east to west, the diocese made the adjustment to ensure that priests from distant areas could participate.
Bishop Meng Qinglu presided over the Mass, with 37 priests concelebrating. Members of the Congregation of Therese of the Child Jesus and parishioners were also present.
In his message during the liturgy, Bishop Meng explained that advancing the Chrism Mass was a practical measure to prepare for Holy Week and Easter.
He led the priests in the renewal of their priestly vows and reaffirmation of their commitment to consecrated life.
The bishop emphasized the responsibilities of the clergy to fulfill their pastoral duties and to follow the example of Christ in service to the faithful, according to the official web page of the Catholic Church in China.
