KOTA KINABALU – In conjunction with the 8th World Day of the Poor which falls annually on the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Sacred Heart Caritas organised a Fund-Raising Initiative for the poor and needy through its sales of Lucky Draw booklets at RM20 each, with a target to raise RM100,000.00 in aid of its Funds.
It launched the Lucky Draw on Sep 5, 2024 which coincided with the Feast Day of St Teresa of Calcutta, whom Caritas Sacred Heart has taken as its Patron Saint.
Initially, the Lucky Draw booklets were sold to Church members of Sacred Heart (SH) and Church of Mary Immaculate (CMI) only, but eventually other parishes in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu also assisted in this good cause.
At the end of the period, the total amount collected was RM106,083.70 thus exceeded the expected amount of RM100,000.00
The theme of this year’s World Day of the Poor is ‘The prayer of the poor rises up to God.’ There is no doubt that the act of charity by the donors and parishioners to the less fortunate will also rise and be acknowledged by our Almighty Father.
Sacred Heart Caritas would like to give thanks to all who have contributed in this fund-raising initiative in one way or the other and especially to God for His providence.
Formed in 2021, there are currently 17 members comprising of parishioners from SHC and CMI parishes, with Fr Paul Lo as its Spiritual Advisor.
