KUALA LUMPUR – The Chapel of Christ the Light, once a humble shop lot ministering to a mere 12 families in the 1980s, has today flourished into a vibrant sanctuary embracing over 4000 parishioners.
The chapel marked a historical milestone on Dec 8, with a re-dedication Mass presided over by Archbishop Julian Leow. Concelebrating with the archbishop were chapel administrator, Fr Peter Anthoney, Fr George Harrison and Fr Edwin Peter.
The celebration commenced with a procession led by 26 BEC leaders and various ministry leaders, showcasing the diverse tapestry of the chapel’s ministries.
In his homily, Archbishop Julian urged the congregation to emulate the path of Jesus, emphasising a life free from sin and the significance of recognising our bodies as temples of God. His message instilled a profound sense of spiritual renewal within the congregation.
Symbolic rituals marked the Rite of Rededication, each carrying deep significance. The blessing and sprinkling of water symbolised purification, followed by the Liturgy of the Word, grounding the ceremony in spiritual essence. The Prayer of Dedication and Anointing consecrated the chapel’s altar and walls, while the deposition of the relics connected the chapel to its rich history. The incensing and lighting of the altar and chapel filled the air with fragrant offerings of prayer and thanksgiving, culminating in the illumination of the altar and chapel with newfound spiritual energy.
Expressing gratitude, Archbishop Julian commended Fr Peter as the tireless shepherd in overseeing the successful renovation project and addressing longstanding issues. Acknowledging the generosity of benefactors, donors, and parishioners, the prelate envisioned the chapel’s imminent elevation to the status of a church, eliciting joyous cheers from the congregation.
In his closing address, Fr Peter thanked Archbishop Julian for presiding over the Re-dedication Mass and the two concelebrants, Frs George and Edwin. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made the renovation a success. He invited parishioners to pray for the forthcoming construction of Christ the King Chapel in Selayang Baru. – Herald Malaysia
