ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW PARISHES WITHOUT A RESIDENT PARISH PRIEST
Mindful of the vision and mission of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu and having consulted the College of Consultors, His Grace Archbishop John Wong, had announced on 18th January 2023 at Tatal, Keningau during Kota Kinabalu Clergy Meeting, the establishment of four new territorial parishes without a resident parish priest :
- St Augustine Parish, Kinarut
- St Thomas Parish, Kepayan
- Good Shepherd Parish, Manggatal
- Church of Mary Immaculate Parish, Bukit Padang
These parishes are established under the aegis of Canon Law 515 §§1-3, 518 and 526 §1 without reservation, and will be governed by all other canons relating to parishes, as well as the particular legislation of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu.
The pastoral care of these newly established parishes without a resident parish priest will be the pastorate of the following parish priests: Fr Wilfred Atin (St Augustine Parish, Kinarut), Fr Ambrose Atang (StThomas Parish, Kepayan), Fr David Sham (Good Shepherd Parish, Menggatal) and Fr Paul Lo (Church of Mary Immaculate Parish, Bukit Padang).
The establishment of these new territorial parishes without a resident priest is to be effective today 2nd February 2023 and be communicated in all parishes of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese at all Masses of Obligation on the weekend of Saturday, 4th February and Sunday, 5th February, 2023.
