KUCHING — The Parish Youth Ministry of Blessed Sacrament Church (BSCPYM), Kuching, had something different in mind this year to celebrate the Parish’s feast day – the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – Corpus Christi.
As pandemic restrictions in churches across the Archdiocese of Kuching began to be lifted, the young people of the Parish saw the need for an emphasis in the doctrine of the Real Presence to draw people back to Mass and to receive Holy Communion in person.
Inspired by Blessed Carlo Acutis, who was the first millennial to be beatified, BSCPYM came together to organise the very first Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition the Parish had seen. The exhibition was held at the BSC Hall on 12, 18, 19 June 2022.
From the oldest known Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano, Italy to the most recent known Eucharistic Miracle of Legnica, Poland, the exhibition featured 16 Church-approved Eucharistic Miracles (8 each in English and Chinese) from all over the world. In addition, the exhibition also introduced saints especially known for their teachings and devotions to the Eucharist, such as St Cyril of Jerusalem and St Thomas Aquinas.
At every Mass, it is a ‘Eucharistic Miracle’ when the Lord makes Himself truly present in the Eucharist. Yet, God has also chosen to reveal His True Presence hidden behind the Hosts time and time again through several Eucharistic miracles to ratify the words prayed by the priest during the Consecration and to confirm the Catholic faith. It was hoped that through this exhibition, the parishioners would be more aware of the importance of going to Mass and receiving the Holy Sacrament – receiving Jesus Himself.
BSCPYM comprises the Chinese Youth Ministry, English Youth Ministry, Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade. It goes without saying that a stronger bond and unity has been formed between the ministries throughout the few months spent working as one larger team. The positive feedback given by the visiting guests has inspired BSCPYM to look forward to working on the next phase of the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition.
Blessed Carlo, pray for us!
