IN preparation for the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ or Corpus Christi, a recollection for all Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (EMC) was held at Sacred Heart Cathedral (SHC) parish on Jun 15.
Altogether 120 EMCs made it for the recollection. They came from SHC, St Paul Dontozidon, and sub-parishes of Church of Mary Immaculate, Our Lady Queen of Peace Kobusak and St John Kopungit.
For the occasion, Fr Paul Lo reminded the ministers that they were called to a very important ministry as ministers for Holy Communion. They are to serve with care and respect towards the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ to the people of God. They are chosen and recommended just as the catechists, lectors, deacons and priests who are all being called to serve.
The requirement for being appointed as EMC are: they love the Holy Eucharist, and they are generous in making time for the weekly Holy Hour on every Thursday to meet the Lord Jesus in adoration and contemplation.
Fr Paul emphasized that making time for the weekly Holy Hour is also “a sacrament of unity” in coming together to pray, where there is no question or division of languages in coming in front of the Blessed Sacrament, adoring and contemplating the Lord in silence.
He added, this is why the church gave us this wonderful Feast of the Corpus Christi as a reminder to all of us that the Eucharist, which is celebrated every Sunday, is a great banquet of love where Jesus Christ gives himself totally to each one of us, so that in turn we can give ourselves totally to others.
In closing, Fr Paul invited the EMCs to attend Holy Hour the following night to spend time in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
