BUKIT PADANG – It was a momentous occasion during the Easter Sunday Mass Apr 24 at the Church of Mary Immaculate (CMI) where over a thousand parishioners witnessed the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation for the pioneer batch of seven candidates who have completed their RCIA journey with their facilitators, godparents and family members.
All seven candidates received the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation, while three among them also received the Sacrament of Baptism.
RCIA in-person sessions were held initially in April 2021 in the newly completed function rooms before switching to online sessions in compliance with the government directives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was a learning experience for the facilitators hosting the weekly sessions on a virtual platform. As the months went by, and with relaxation of the SOPS, the candidates were able to join other candidates of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish (SHC) for all the rites and scrutinies at the Cathedral.
Fr Paul Lo, parish priest of SHC and the celebrant of the Mass on Easter Sunday at CMI, reminded that we are all called to renew our faith and that the RCIA candidates enter through Baptism into communion with Christ’s death, and rise with him on his resurrection. Fr Lo concluded his homily by saying “Let us rejoice and share the good news to everyone. As Christians, it is our mission to proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Saviour”.
As for the 2022 – 2023 RCIA journey, the in-person walk led by four facilitators has started on Apr 24, and enquirers are welcome to join the weekly sessions. Further details can be obtained from the CMI office at 088-222345 or contact Lawrence Mah at 012 825 9979.
